Review: Thai Express

Had dinner with Crystal on Saturday at the Thai Express at Holland Village. Thai Express has a bunch of outlets all over the place, they may be a franchise; but I'm inclined to think they're a local brand capitalising on the growing popularity of Thai food.

Thai Express interior

Thai Express is a pretty casual sort of eatery, the Holland Village branch has a smoking and non-smoking section, and is quite minimalist in decor. Pretty much what you'd expect.

We had a very earnest, if not very helpful, waiter serving us. His recommendation of the dry beef curry dish to me because "it is very nice" could probably have been more vague, but he does get points for trying.

Dry Beef Cury

That's my very nice dry beef curry served with steamed rice ($8.50). It wasn't that nice, really (3/5). A decent amount of beef, though, and quite spicy. You could probably find something similar in a large food court for half the price.

Crystal had some noodle thing with a fancy Thai name which I cannot now pronounce or remember, but is listed as "Thai Mee Sua" in the receipt. Guess their food is only slightly pretentious too.

The location's pretty good, since Holland Village is the new Orchard Road, soon to be connected via MRT and all that.

Ambience is nothing to write home about. At least there were no gaudy buddhas and pagodas.

Service...yeah. Adequate.
